Henderson County Mine

Henderson, KY. (June 6, 2023) – A groundbreaking for the Henderson County Mine will take place July 6th at 10:00 am at the intersection of Kentucky 145 and Sulfur Springs Road near the community of Dixie.

This $35-million-dollar operation in Henderson County, Kentucky is the newest underground site in the Alliance Coal family.

Construction of the Henderson County Mine is currently underway and is scheduled to be completed by January 2025. When complete, we expect this site will be staffed with approximately 260 high-paying jobs with benefits. Immediate job opportunities exist and new employees can start training at the River View Mine in Waverly, Kentucky, until the Henderson County Mine is ready. River View Coal, LLC, a subsidiary of Alliance Coal, LLC, operates the River View Mine and will serve as the operator of the new Henderson County Mine. River View Coal, LLC began producing coal in 2009 and its River View Mine is the largest underground room-and-pillar mine in North America.

Coal from the Henderson County Mine will be transported through underground conveyors from the Corydon shaft site and come to the surface at a slope in Waverly, Kentucky.  Coal will be processed and eventually conveyed to a terminal on the Ohio River near Uniontown, Kentucky. The Henderson County Mine will have a 30,000-square-foot building at the Corydon shaft site, which will serve as the main office, warehouse, and bathhouse for the mining operation.

“River View Coal is excited to open a new location in Henderson County,” River View Coal, LLC General Manager Bill Adelman said. “This project allows us the opportunity to increase our production capacity to continue to mine coal and meet the needs of the power producers who care about providing affordable and reliable electricity to homes and businesses.” Adelman said. “River View Coal looks forward to what this project means for Henderson County and our miners, both current and future.”

Henderson County Judge/Executive Brad Schneider expressed appreciation for Alliance Coal’s investment in Henderson County.

“Henderson County is proud to have helped facilitate Alliance Coal’s decision to continue investing in Northwest Kentucky,” Schneider said. “The additional jobs this new mine can create will mean even greater prosperity for our corner of the commonwealth and more energy security for our state and our nation.”

State Senator Robby Mills commented on the impact Henderson County Mine will have on the community.

“It is gratifying to see the forward momentum of River View’s Henderson County Mine,” Mills said. “This groundbreaking means coal will continue to play a huge part in the economy of NWKY for years to come, and many of our coal miners will to be able to continue to support their families in this vital industry. Thank you to Joe Craft and Alliance for continuing to believe in NWKY!”

State Representative Jonathan Dixon noted the company’s longstanding presence in the region.

“River View Coal has been vested in the success of our communities for many years,” Dixon said. “It is great news that they are continuing to produce great paying jobs and making a huge investment in Henderson.”

Missy Vanderpool, executive director for Henderson Economic Development commended Henderson County Mine’s annual impact to the community.

“We are thrilled to welcome Henderson County Mine to Henderson County. It will create an annual impact in the community of approximately $300 million,” Vanderpool said. “We have a strong relationship with the project team, and we know this relationship will become even stronger as the Henderson County Mine starts construction. Thank you, Alliance Coal, for choosing Henderson!”
